MAS ETH Nutrition and Health

Nutrition plays a vital role for a healthy and active life. This in-depth and dynamic continuing education programme introduces you to the important aspects of nutrition related to health and disease prevention. Our program explores the intricate interactions between food, nutrition, health, and disease or disease prevention from multiple perspectives, empowering you to apply your newly gained knowledge in a variety of fields.

MAS Nutrition and Health

Objectives

Natural scientists, pharmacists, and medical doctors are offered an advanced education that gives a broad overview on aspects of food and nutrition, their influence on health and their potential for prevention of diseases. This also includes in-depth knowledge in physiology of eating, nutrition related toxicology, nutrigenomics as well as research methodologies related to nutrition. MAS ETH NH graduates are trained to identify and understand problems of nutrition and the interrelationship between diet and health. Emphasis is on the role of diet in the prevention of chronic disease in industrialized countries, and on preventing micronutrient and macronutrient malnutrition in the developing world.
 

Professional perspectives

Depending on the field of expertise, jobs can be expected in a variety of fields:

  • General: Nutrition research; nutrition teaching at different levels; nutrition journalism
  • Public Health Area: Governmental or non-governmental organisations detecting and monitoring nutrition related health problems; designing and implementing health strategies; providing information related to nutrition and health
  • Food industry: Nutrition research or product development to design food with health benefit; marketing and costumer interactions
  • Pharmacy: Consulting customers on nutrition and nutrition related diseases
  • Pharmaceutical industry: Research and development in the neutraceutical or nutritional supplements area
     
MAS Nutrition and Health

Target audience

This programme targets graduates with a master's degree (or equivalent) in natural science, medical doctors and pharmacists.

 

Courses and structure

The programme encompasses a total of 60 ECTS. Participants are required a minimum of 35 ECTS from a choice of 15 compulsory courses, and 5 ECTS from a choice of elective courses. In addition, completion of a Master Thesis (20 ECTS) is necessary for successful completion of the Master of Advanced Studies and to receive the title "MAS ETH in Nutrition and Health" (MAS ETH NH).

The programme can be completed full-time over 2 semesters (1 year, 100% workload) or part-time over 3-4 semesters (2 years, 50% workload). The program can be started every semester. Total workload equals to approx. 1800 study hours, including presence in classes, preparation and processing time, performance control and writing of thesis.

  • Nutrition and Performance (2 ECTS)
  • Introduction to the Nutrition Research Process (3 ECTS)

Recommended procedure for a successful application

Application period:

  • Autumn Semester: 1 April – 30 June 
  • Spring Semester: 1 September – 30 November 

Applicants that need a visa for Switzerland are recommended to apply until 30.05.

Admission:

Your application will be reviewed by the school for continuing education for formal completeness and by the program representatives regarding fulfillment of the program specific admission requirements mentioned above.

  • Applicants who cannot provide proof of sufficient knowledge and/or work experience will be declined.
  • The final decision is communicated in writing by the school for continuing education.
  • For students requiring a visa: Usually, the Swiss authorities do not issue student visas for part-time studies. The visa is required for the residence permit.


 

  • Programme fee: CHF 19'500 for the complete programme
  • Application fee: CHF 50 for applicants with a Swiss university degree, CHF 150 for applicants with another university degree (non refundable, credit card payment only)
  • Withdrawal fee: CHF 0 up to 30 days after admission; CHF 9’750 after 30 days upon admission; CHF 19'500 after programme start
