Everyone is talking about nutrition in all its variety. But can nutrition really aid in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases? Can diet support treatment? How can nutrition improve overall health? Are you working in the medical field and/or are you otherwise interested in these kinds of questions? CAS Nutrition in Medicine

Objectives

The programme is designed to deepen the knowledge in the field of nutrition. After a brief introduction to the basic concepts of nutrition and digital nutrition monitoring, specific topics in nutrition and metabolic diseases and nutrition and aging will be covered in depth. Other topics include the interactions between nutrition and health and the latest developments in personalised nutrition. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to assess the potential of nutrition in the context of disease prevention and treatment and evaluate appropriate therapies.
 

Professional perspectives

The CAS will provide a solid training in nutrition to medical/health care practitioners who will be able to apply the knowledge in their everyday work with patients. This will open up supporting options in prevention and treatment.
 

CAS Nutrition in Medicine

Target audience

The programme is designed for physicians, health care providers, pharmacists, health- and food scientists who wish to deepen their knowledge in nutrition.

 

Courses

The CAS ETH in Nutrition in Medicine is a one year programme, designed as part- time study during 2 semesters. The program consists of of six modules (adding up to a total of 15 ECTS) and starts every autumn semester. It is taught predominantly online with input lectures available as recordings for individual study and the corresponding interactive elements (workshops, case studies, presentations etc.) taught online in one afternoon ca. every 2 weeks. An in-person event will be held in Zurich both at the beginning and the end of the course. The total workload equals to ~450 hours, including lectures, preparation time and assessments. Upon completion of the 15 ECTS, the title "CAS ETH in Nutrition for Medicine" (CAS ETH NutriMed) will be granted.

  • Nutrition in metabolic disease (3 ECTS)
  • Healthy nutrition in old age (3 ECTS)
  • Food-health interactions (2 ECTS)
  • Personalised nutrition (3 ECTS)

Programme information

  • Start: every autumn semester
  • Location: mostly online (except first and last day at ETH Zurich)
     

Applicants must hold a master's degree in Natural Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy or Movement Sciences acknowledged by ETH or equivalent qualification.

Recommended procedure for a successful application


Application period: 7 April - 7 July

Admission:

  • Your application will be reviewed by the school for continuing education for formal completeness and by the program representatives regarding fulfillment of the program specific admission requirements mentioned above.
  • Applicants who cannot provide proof of sufficient knowledge and/or work experience will be declined.
  • The final decision is communicated in writing by the school for continuing education.
  • For students requiring a visa: Usually, the Swiss authorities do not issue student visas for part-​time studies. The visa is required for the residence permit.
  • Program fee: CHF 9’900
  • Application fee: CHF 50 for persons with a Swiss university degree, CHF 150 for persons with another university degree (non-refundable, credit card payment only)
  • Withdrawal fee: CHF 0 until 30 days after admission; CHF 4'950 after 30 days upon admission; CHF 9'900 after start of the programme
